Last week, I promised to share my coupon organization system with you! So, here it is…it is definitely nothing fancy, but it is working well for me at this point. I started out using a full binder method, but I quickly tired when I realized how many expired coupons I was pulling out at the end of the month! Now, I am using a combination binder and insert method.
Below, I share a video about my how my system works (I hope you’ll be gentle with me as this is my first ever YouTube experience! I know I have a lot to learn)!
If you are viewing this via email subscription, you can find the video here.
As you can see from the video — it is a very simple system! Here are a few steps to get you started:
Supplies
Binder
Baseball card sleeves
Page protectors
Address labels or page divider tabs
Binder clip
1) Decide on the categories (or how your coupons will be organized). Write or print these categories on the labels. For a nicer look, use page divider tabs! I would suggest putting a couple of baseball card sleeves per category. You can always add more if necessary!
My categories: Organic, Dairy, Breakfast, Beverages, Soups, Meats and Easy Dinners, Baking, Bread and Pasta, Snacks and Sweets, Vegetables and Fruit, Personal, and Household. Add or change to fit your preferences!
2) Use a binder clip or large paper clip to secure coupons to the top of the binder while you are shopping.
2) Add five to ten page protectors in the back for coupon inserts.
I know this method is not for everyone! It is a little bulky — and my husband doesn’t exactly like to be seen with me in the store 🙂 — but it helps me to stay better organized!

Thanks for sharing! I am a fan of the insert method but am definitely trying to figure something out for those great coupons I get in the mail, online, catalinas, and in magazines.

It does work really well for all of those loose coupons I acquire!

Thank you for sharing your system. I never thought of actually combining a couple of methods like you have done. I think I’ll give it a shot.

It works pretty well for me — I’ve tried several systems, but I’m sticking with this one for now!

Thanks for sharing this sounds so simple I think even I’d be able to stick with it.
Stacie says
I like it much better than a full binder system — much easier to get rid of the expired coupons!

I do this as well, except I purchased a pencil holder that hooks into the front of my binder. When I have a coupon I’m going to use, I put it in the pencil holder so that I can get to it easily, and all of the coupons I will be using are in one place. I can also zip it up so they won’t fall out.

Thanks so much! I have been cutting out all the coupons and filing them into a little accordian file that fits in my purse. It worked at first, but as I’ve collected more coupons I’ve decided it is a pain to look through if I come upon an unadvertised sale or a good deal I hadn’t considered before walking into the store. I decided it was time to move to a binder, but I didn’t want to do the insert method and have to clip in the store, so this is perfect! Much more manageable for me!

Great! I was hoping it would be helpful!

I do this as well and I also have a pencil holder where I put my coupons I am using that day as well. My binder also has an accordian stle pocket built into the front where I store the extra coupon flyers with the coupons I might use in the future. I do still have some expired coupons I pull out at the end of the month from the pockets but the system I have sounds very similar to your and is definately working for me as well. Thanks for your tips and I look forward to more in the future!

I usually have some expired coupons too — but not nearly as many as I did! It isn’t quite as overwhelming to me!

I do this with my coupons too and I organize my binder by grocery store aisle. I know my Kroger’s layout by heart and I just flip the binder page when I turn the corner into the next aisle. Even though other grocery store layouts aren’t the same, they do stock the same foods next to one another and I can easily flip to those coupons in my binder when I’m shopping there.
Stacie says
I love that idea! I never even thought about organizing my binder by store!

I do this as well but instead of the baseball card pages I use the photo album pages so that everything fits down inside the pockets. Each page has 2 pockets so it does take more pages but it’s easier for me to keep up with what I have. I’ve got them in order the way that I shop and each pocket has a tab divider label on it. It stays either in my bag(I have kids and always carry a big bag) or in the car whenever I go out.
