So…I completely stole this DIY magnetic board idea from my friend Deborah over at Teach Preschool! (Be sure to check out her post, because she “prettied” her magnetic board up. Not me. I do plain. A lot….)
I wanted a large magnetic board for our school room, but the prices on bigger sizes are crazy! Instead, I simply bought an oil pan from Walmart for $11.97. It’s nice and lightweight, and you could add a cute ribbon hanger to it if you wanted to and hang it on the wall. I’m just leaning it against the wall for now, because I want the capability to move it around. Since we are using our All About Spelling tiles on it, I also want to be able to *hide* it when my almost two-year-old niece visits (just because I’m lazy and don’t want to put them back in order)! :0
The pan I have does have words imprinted on it, but I just put our tiles right over them. You could use a spray paint for metal and give it more of a finished look if desired.
Anyway, I love it and think it’s a fabulous (and inexpensive) solution to my problem!

My husband brought home a huge 9 door locker from his work (they were just throwing it out.). So we are able to use that as our magnetic board. 🙂

I just put one of these in my 2’s classroom as well! I did not pretty it up either, but attached it to the back of a toy shelf that is on wheels with velcro. It was almost the exact same size as the shelf and is light enough that the velcro (long strips) was plenty strong enough to hold it up and keep it 2 year old proofed. And I can take it off if I ever need to. Love this because it’s so interactive for little learners and the possibilities are endless!

AHHH! I love this idea!! I have magnets on my file cabinet but it’s right behind my chair and not a good place for them to actually use it! Walmart to the rescue!
