Golden Reflections has a FREE printable list full of ideas to help kids stay organized, alert and calm— ready to learn. These activities are great for breaks for homeschoolers and are ideal for families with children who have special needs, specifically sensory processing disorder, but would be beneficial for any child. Below are just a few of the activities included in the free printables, that make for an a easy to use resource to have on hand:
Organizing Activities for Kids
- Heavy work (gives input to muscles and joints and causes fatigue)
- Wall pushes with hands and feet.
- Wheelbarrow walking
- Obstacle course
- Resistance Bands
Alerting Activities for Kids
- Bouncing on a therapy ball
- Vibrations on the arms, hand or back
- Jumping on a mini-trampoline
- Use two fingers on both sides of the spine, give a light upward stroke 3-5 times.
- Running (Relay races, obstacle courses etc)
Calming Activities for Kids
- Rocking slowly over ball on belly
- Swinging in a large circle with child facing an adult
- Laying under a heavy blanket
- Laying on the floor while an adult rolls a ball over top giving some deep pressure.
- Hand fidgets (such a play dough, wikki stix, theraputty etc.)
- Heavy work (moving furniture, a stack of heavy books, pulling a weighted backpack/rolling cart)
