Before I started using coupons, I had several (wrong!!) ideas about coupons (you can find them here). The first myth I believed is here. This week we’re ready to tackle the second coupon myth I believed:
Coupon Myth #2: Coupons are only for stuff I don’t want (or junk food).
Now, I’m not going to deny it: you will find lots of coupons for junk and processed food. There is no doubt about it! But more and more, I’m beginning to see coupons and bargains for many other items.
I’ve recently printed coupons for:
- Organic items
- Fruit
- Milk
- Personal items like shampoo, make-up, and razors
- Household items like toilet paper, napkins, and plastic bags
There is a wide variety of coupons available! It may take a little looking, but you can find coupons for items you use! Here are a few suggestions for finding coupons:
1) Go to the manufacturer’s website.
If you have a particular product you like to use, check out their website! Often, you can sign up to receive a newletter or become part of an “insider” group.
2) Write to the manufacturer.
If you like a product, let them know! Sometimes they’ll send you coupons and other deals.
3) Host a coupon swap.
There are many coupons I don’t use — but someone else may use them! Get together with friends, swap coupons, and have fun!
4) Look into coupon clipping services.
Looking for several of a particular coupon? Go to The Coupon Clippers and search for what you’re looking for (coupon clipping services do charge a small fee per coupon and shipping charges).
5) Check out my coupon database.
If you have a particular item you’re looking for, find the pink coupon database button in the Motherhood on a Dime sidebar and search for whatever you want!
