God’s Little Explorers Week 10
- Theme: ”k” is for Kings
- Bible Story: King David & King Solomon
- Bible Verse: “The LORD is enthroned as King forever.” (Psalms 29:10)
- Letter: k
- Number: 5
Here are a few activities we did:
First we made a crown. You have to have a crown for a king theme, right?!! I just cut a sheet of paper in half, stuck the paper together, cut a few points, and taped it together. My daughter completed it with some craft jewels.
We built castles from blocks.
We sorted and made patterns with jewels.
We used k-k-kernels to outline the number five.
The girls put together shapes to make a castle. I’ve included some shape templates in the download (see below).
We made “Royal Seals” with a circle of styrofoam from the bottom of a cup. I used a knife to cut the letter k into it, and we stamped it onto a printable letter k.
My daughter is almost ready, but not quite reading yet, so we did this pre-reading or beginner reading sort.
Finally, we added a “King” to our Treasure Map!

I love your ideas! One idea that comes to me is talking about and practicing curtsying and bowing before royalty (sounds like a good dress up opp)…then we can go all into how we bow when we pray, and how Jesus is our King, and that He came from the line of David–the fulfillment of the prophecies. Royal relationships could also be covered–king, queen, prince, princess. My girls loved the God’s Little Princess dvds and books–maybe one of those could be useful to help explain how we are adopted in as princes and princesses.

That’s perfect! I love those ideas. I was short on time this week and just couldn’t get my brain to think of too many “King” ideas!
I’m not sure if I’m familiar with God’s Little Princess? Is it Gigi?

Another great book is Daughter of a King by Rachel Ann Nunes.

You could also make valentines or do some kind of activity with hearts to help teach the part about David being a man after God’s own heart. Or teach about when God had Samuel first anoint David as king and the line about man looking at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart. 🙂
Thank-you by the way for all these great lessons plans. I really appreciate it and I know my boys will have lots of fun with them too. 🙂

More of a “fun” read, but my boys love King Jack and the Dragon. It’s a great rhyming story for little ones.

The book we owned and read this week, which is great for the King theme is: The Donkey who Carried a King by R.C. Sproul
