My friend, Linda, shared these puzzles with me. She actually had the children draw pictures on their popsicle sticks, but I decided to adapt it for our sunflower theme.
Supplies:
- Jumbo craft sticks
- Photo or clip art
- Glue
- Craft knife
1. Print and cut out a sunflower photo. Lay out the craft sticks to see how many will be needed.
2. Tape the edges of the craft sticks to the work surface so they will not move.
3. Glue the photograph to the craft sticks.
4. Using a craft knife, cut through the photo to cut the sticks apart.
An easy storage idea is a plastic baggy. These puzzles would be great to put in a diaper bag or purse to pull-out when you’re on-the-go and need a quiet activity!

What type of glue did you find works best?
Stacie says
We used school glue that we smeared around. I tried a glue stick, but it didn't seem to hold quite as well!

I think I am going to try Modge Pogde that can be used for decopauge (sp?).

That's really nice keepsake game! Very cool!
Stacy says
could you use a real photo or does it need to be printed from a computer?
Stacie says
I would guess you could use a regular photo!
Sarah says
Modge Podge works great!
Stacie says
Awesome! Thanks for letting us know!!
Kathryn says
Can you clarify if you used a photo on photo paper or on regular paper?
Stacie says
I’ve used both! Regular paper seems to stick best, but it probably depends what kind of glue you are using if you use photo paper.

Uma idéia Genial , pra ter um brinquedo alegre e fácil de fazer… Eu recomendo !

I plan on doing this with magnetic strip and a small flat wooden board. Also, to help learn numbers I’ll number the sticks in their correct order.

Excellent ideas!!

What size is the picture?
Stacie Nelson says
If I remember correctly, I just used a 4×6!

Thanks!!

I tried making these for my OCC boxes. I found it not so easy. I used Z-acto knife and the picture tore or cut very unevenly . I used photos from a magazine and many of them bled thru. I still liked the idea. Hope I have better luck next time making them MA
Stacie Nelson says
It may have been the kind of paper you used? I didn’t have too much trouble with photo paper or cardstock.
Jackie says
For a 4×6 photo, do you recall how many sticks were used? I’d like to use the smaller ones vs the jumbo. I want to make these as party favors and buy as many sticks as I need.

I loved this post! I just found it while searching “busy bags” and off of someone else’s blog (http://mommyingmonkeys.blogspot.com/2011/07/busy-bags-and-giveaway.html)
In response to those having trouble cutting the picture, once the glue dried, I would turn the whole thing over and cut through the slits in the popsicle sticks. That way, the picture is secured against the cutting board and sticks. I used a utility knife. I used a photograph so it was not thin paper like magazine-quality so I’m not sure if this method would work for that too. I’ve seen from other blog posts that people cut the picture first and then glue it on to the sticks but I think I prefer your method!
Kathy says
You can make them with old Christmas cards or greeting cards just cut off front and it is thicker than paper
