Coming up tomorrow, I’ll be sharing our God’s Little Explorer’s lesson plan for the Creation Story and the letter “G for Garden”. One of the big projects we did during this unit was to make a creation book out of contact paper. We did just two pages each day over the week to spread it out.
Creation “Sticky” Book
Supplies:
- Contact paper
- Construction paper
- Cotton ball
- Craft foam
- Star stickers
- Dirt
- Leaves
- Feathers
- Photo of your child
- Magazine with animal photos
- Scissors
- Yarn
- Hole punch or stapler
1) Cut out eight sets of contact paper squares. I measured the length of my contact paper roll and cut out two squares from each length.
For Day 1, stick a rectangle of black and a rectangle of yellow (for Day and Night). Cover with another square of contact paper.
2) For Day 2, cut out “water” from a sheet of craft foam or construction paper. Pull apart a cotton ball and stick onto the contact paper for a cloud. Cover with another square of contact paper.
3) For Day 3, sprinkle some dirt (for land) and add leaves and grass to symbolize trees and plants. Cover with a square of contact paper.
4) For Day 4, cut out a sun and moon from yellow construction paper. Stick to the contact paper. Add star stickers. Cover with a square of contact paper.
5) On Day 5, place some craft feathers and construction paper or sticker fish on the contact paper. Cover with another square of contact paper.
6) On Day 6, place a photo of your child in the middle. Cut-out animals from a magazine and place around the photo. Cover with a square of contact paper.
7) For Day 7, cut-out and stick the words “God rested” from this printable.
8) Make a cover for the book with this printable. Have your child write his or her name. Cover with contact paper.
9) Assemble the book. You wouldn’t have to, but I put plain squares of construction paper between each page. Trim the pages to the same size and staple it together. You could also punch holes in the pages and tie together with yarn. If you wanted to make a really nice book to keep for a while, you could have it spiral bound at an office supply store.
Instead of making a book, you could also hang up the individual days on the wall.

This is great! My 3rd grader’s science for the whole year is Days of Creation so I think I may have him do one along with my 3 year old. For that matter, I think all 5 of the boys would like to do it!
This may be a dumb question, but I’ve never bought contact paper before, where can I get it?
Also, I wanted you to know that we started the X week yesterday. My 3 year old is now walking around the house crossing his arms saying “ks”! He’s not your normal 3 year old either. He just has started talking about 4 or 5 months ago. He only speaks in some sentences. He’s super smart…just never been interested in saying too much. This is one of the reasons that I am so excited about your God’s Little Explorers! I actually have a blog that I don’t keep up with, but I’m going to try to find the time to post some pictures of him doing some of the activities. We are loving it!!

Hi, Tara!
I would absolutely love if you shared some pictures on your blog. It blesses me to know that what we’re doing is helping someone else!
I found contact paper in the kitchen section at Walmart. It’s used for lining shelves, but you can get it in clear. It is a little more expensive, but the girls enjoyed the “sticky” part. You could also just adapt and use regular construction paper or cardstock for your pages and just glue on the items for each day. (You might want to skip the dirt though!!)

Do you think that all the things that you used would fit through the laminator? That’s pretty much like contact paper isn’t it?
Thanks for all your help!

Thanks for sharing and the photos. I’m sure she’ll enjoy her book for a long time.

Hi Stacie! I’ve started a week late and trying to look agead to see how I can squeeze in a week’s lesson to get on track. My son is 3.5yo. I love your curriculum. I’m very impressed. I am most happy that it’s not centered around online as I don’t like the addictiveness of it And I’m not so techy and it all overwhelms me. I’m trying to get used to finding your spreadsheet for the week and organize myself. Using my phone mostly because laptop isn’t in good working order. Anyway, Thank you Thank you Thank you for giving me hope and help that seems mostly attainable even though we are unemployed in this season. God Bless you!
