After just three days of P90X, I can see that I need to increase my protein intake!! I’m looking for new ideas! I’ve currently thought of a few ways to do this:
1) Purchase a few protein bars.
I definitely do not normally do this, but I found a pretty good deal at Amazon for KIND PLUS, Almond Walnut Macadamia + Protein bars. Using the code KINDMAY5 and the Subscribe-and-Save option, I can get them for right at $1 a piece (if you’ve ever bought these in a natural food store, you know this is a fabulous price)! Thankfully, I’ve been scrimping with this month’s grocery budget, so I have a little extra to play with now! Oh, and I have a few Swagbucks to use!
2) Try a few new recipes with beans!
If you have any suggestions, I’m all ears!!
3) Eat more almond butter.
I received my shipment from the Amazon deal I posted last week — and I think it’s really good. It’s straight almonds – nothing added.
4) Eat more eggs.
So, the beans and eggs are pretty frugal, but the protein bars are somewhat of an indulgence for me! My goal is to look for ways to stick within my budget AND get the right nutrition!
Do you have any other protein suggestions?!!

Try other legumes like lentils. Quinoa is also a complete protein…lots of excellent recipes out there! You can get a good deal on it at Costco 🙂

Sadly, I don’t have a Costco nearby!! Hmm, I’ve never used Quinoa – though I’ve heard of it! I’ll have to do some recipe searching!

One thing I love is mixing in some cottage cheese while I’m cooking scrambled eggs. This ups their protein and gives them a fun twist.
You could try making your own protein bars or protein shakes. These are much less expensive than protein bars.
Hopefully, Dillon’s will have a sale on LUNA bars that would make them free after coupons, too.

Because of allergies, I am not used to cooking eggs very often!! So I definitely need to come up with a few different ways to cook them! I saw a recipe on Heavenly Homemakers for Luna-type bars, so I might have to give that a try. I got the KIND bars for a good price with giftcards from Swagbucks, so I’ll use those up and then try to make some! I also thought of making some smoothies with bananas and almond butter — we’ll see what I come up with!!

I’m a certified personal trainer and a HUGE fan of protein. I suggest you get a canister of protein powder (make sure the carbs are under 3 grams per serving) and add it to your foods whenever possible.

Do you have a particular brand or type you recommend?!!
