On February 1, we kicked off a “No-Spend” month, and I made it my goal to report how it was going each Saturday.
There were a few days during the week when I was a little tempted to purchase something (like an eBook for $0.99), but I remembered what we were doing and realized I didn’t really need it!
With that said, my sweet husband was outside last Sunday when a Girl Scout came by selling cookies. If you know my husband, he is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. And, of course, he couldn’t say no! (Compare that to me–who turns down kids selling stuff flat. I know…terrible!)
In all, we spent:
- $3.50 – Girl Scout Cookies
- $35 + $35.89 – Gas
- $5.85 – Groceries
Total: $80.24
Honestly, the first week seemed fairly easy. I think it’s kind of like a diet….it seems easy at first, but then more and more temptations come and you have to figure out how to say no! We’ll see how next week goes! We also had a refrigerator full of food, but I’ll have to get a little more creative with snacks and meals next week to clean out the freezer. We’ll also have to buy some fresh food, since I’m not willing to sacrifice our health for this challenge!
How did you do?
That’s so funny, because my husband will say yes to any of the kids selling things (and we’re teachers who get hit up a lot!) so he sends them to me so I can say no. Good luck with the rest of the month!
Ha, ha! I bet you do get hit up to buy a ton of things! Yes, my sweet husband…he just couldn’t stand to turn someone down!
