Craft and School Supply Organization Hint #10: Organize with a Hanging Shoe Holder
If you don’t have a lot of space, you can easily put this on a door and use it to store and sort glue, markers, pencils, small busy bags or card games, crafts sticks, scissors, tape, etc.
In addition to storing craft or school supplies, there are so many other uses for an over-the-door shoe holder:
- Organize small toys (We’re storing Barbies and Polly Pocket stuff)
- Organize small clothing items (belts, socks, underwear, hair bands, etc.)
- Snack time organizer (see comment below) – Thanks, Beth!
- Entryway organizer (mittens, sunglasses, sunscreen, dog leash, etc.) Thanks, Beth & April!
Have you ever used an over-the-door shoe holder for something other than shoes? Feel free to leave your ideas in the comments!

I have one on my pantry door.. Use it for the kids snacks like granola bars, fruit snacks, raisins. Plus all the free sample boxes of cereal. That way it is easier for them to get to! Plus we have one in our laundry room/ garage door that holds extra bags, dog leash, grill tools, sunscreen/sunglasses. Anything we need to grab on the go!
Oh, my! Those are awesome ideas! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Yes, they are! We’re gonna copy your great ideas, Beth and Stacie!
A friend of mine uses one on the back of her door for hats and mittens in the winter. I just bought one to do the same. Wish I had a door in our school room area to hang one for the craft supplies. That looks great too.
Great ideas! I use one in my utility closet to organize my cleaning bottles & sprays, rubber gloves, sponges & scrubbers, microfiber cloths, etc.
My daughter has a shoe bag that hangs on the pole in the closet. She decided she wanted to keep her shoes under her bed like Daddy does. She has several sweaters and I was trying to figure out where to put them. I found that I could “roll” them and put them in the shoe bag!
We use the canvas shoe holder that has mesh pockets to hold bows. The bows clip right onto the mesh! It works great!
That’s a cute idea! With three girls, we have lots of bows…. 🙂
I actually use one in the pantry for packets – Kool aid, muffin, seasoning, specialty teas. I also use one in my bathroom for soaps, razors, etc.
Love those ideas, too!
