Is your tot ready to learn his or her ABC’s? Here are tons of FREE printables, games, ideas, videos, and activities to help you as you teach your child one of the first steps on his or her journey to learn to read! Being an eclectic homeschooler, I love to pull resources and ideas from everywhere, finding things I know my kids would enjoy and learn from. Teaching your child his or her ABC’s doesn’t have to be difficult! Sometimes I just draw out on plain ol’ white paper what my tot does, such as coloring in a big bubbled letter. We do a letter each week and keep it fun! We trace letters with finger paint, sidewalk chalk, window crayons, and markers or in flour, sand, pudding, and shaving cream. My tot creates letters with string, pipe cleaners, and sticks. I have my tot glue down cereal, buttons, pom poms and use stickers to create the shape of a letter. We sing the alphabet song and play alphabet Bingo! We cut out letters and pictures out of magazines to create ABC books. Incorporating character words and bible verses that include the letter of focus is also a part of our routine. It’s fun to eat snacks that begin with the letter of the week. We also do a lot of reading!
Here’s my sweet little tot, Dylan, working on his alphabet. I have to keep it very active for this energetic little guy! On the left, he “splatted” the letters as I called them out, then put them in order, and then matched up lowercase with uppercase. On the right, he had rolled up playdough balls and was “splatting” them on the letter of the day, “D.” He loved it!
I hope you find a few ideas below that you can add to your collection of inspiration to work on the alphabet with your child! –Mandie

Hello! I absolutely love your God’s Little Explorer’s Curriculum! However, I am having a hard time pulling up the site. Am I doing something wrong? Thank you.

I’m not quite sure what you mean? You can’t pull up the post or the lesson plans? I went to the page and it seems to be working fine? Let me know and I’ll see what I can do!
