It’s Day 22 of the 30 Day Fitness Challenge! Several of you are already participating, but anyone else who would like to participate is welcome to leave me a comment on this post. I’ll be glad to add you to the challenge! Don’t forget, I have a small prize to give away at the end of the challenge!
I’m going to be really honest with you this week — I am feeling pretty depressed. I was supposed to be running in the NYC 1/2 Marathon in March, but I’ve just recently made the decision to pull-out. I ran my first 1/2 Marathon last year in Nashville (you can read about it here), and I dealt with a recurring back/knee problem — and it seems to be back since I’ve upped my mileage (and did some heavy lifting when we moved furniture). I really love running (jogging, in my case), but it just doesn’t seem to love me!
Anyway, with the help of my chiropractor, I could probably push through it — if that was the only problem, but there are several other reasons as well — enough reasons that it really is wise to pull-out — but I JUST DON’T WANNA! I have this back-and-forth tug-of-war going on! (Have you ever been there?!!) I know this is the right thing to do, but I just hate making the decision!!
And so, I feel depressed about it.
But, on a happier note, I did get in some exercise! And it wasn’t too painful (except for the 7 mile “test” run I did)!
Here’s what I did:
Thursday, February 10: 4 Mile Jog
Friday, February 11: 3 Miles on the Elliptical
Saturday, February 12: Rest
Sunday, February 6: 7 Mile Jog
Monday, February 7: Rest/Stretching
Tuesday, February 8: Rest/Stretching
Wednesday, February 9: 2 Mile Walk/Jog
If you’re taking the challenge, how did you do? Feel free to leave your progress in the comments!

Well, I’m certainly not running as much as you!!!, but I am in week 3 of Couch to 5K, which is good for me and my friend who are pretty out of shape! We jog/walk according to the schedule for 1/2 hr 3x per week and stretch on the other days. My 8yr old son and her 11 yr old brother join us for the jogs, but certainly outrun us!
You’re running for 30 minutes?!! That’s awesome! I bet you could run pretty far now!

I can relate. I was so pumped to meet my goal of losing 30 before 30! I was getting up early with a neighbor and running, which is huge for me! I love sleep!!! I sprained my ankle really bad and can’t do ANYTHING…maybe hand weights. So frustrated with it all and looking forward to healing quickly so I can jump back into my goal!
Your doing great! Hang in there!
Oh, no! I’m so sad to hear that — how long do they think you’ll have to be off it? I’m glad to hear you were getting out there — and I hope you’ll keep up the passion once you’re healed up!
I think 30 lbs is totally doable — how long do you have?

Hi! I have been participating. Last week was a down week when we had snow and I got a cold. I did exercise this Monday, Tuesday and today at the gym. There are great (well, when they are over) high intensity interval classes at the gym i go to. I want to do a 1/2 marathon too. My town has one in Oct I want to try. 4 miles is the most i have run at one time though! I will pray for you all. I turned 29 in Jan. and am hoping to lose 20 before 30!
Great job! I know the weather last week was not so great around here either!
The most I had run before I did my first 1/2 last spring was 3 miles — so I truly believe anyone can do it! Set a high goal! Look forward to seeing how your next week goes! Keep it up!

I struggled last week. I’m not going to lie. All of a sudden I got shin splints almost every time I got on the treadmill. I thought my muscle was going to tear. Any advice? I stretch before and after so I don’t know what the major malfunction was.
Here it goes, head hanging down 🙁
02/10 – 1 hour fast walk/treadmill
02/11 – 02/13 rest
02/14 – 15 minutes walk/treadmill, due to shin splints
02/15 – 10 minutes walk/treadmill, due to shin splints
02/16 – 30 minutes walk/treadmill TWICE!!! I had mild shin splints but was able to suck it up 🙂 20 push ups and 50 jumping jacks
