**Update!  If you don’t mind used books, you can get the three book Lord of the Rings set for $8.95 at Thrift Books!  (Scroll down to find the deal.)  You can then also search for the Hobbit.  It won’t be quite as nice if you are planning to give it as a gift as a complete boxed set, but you’ll save quite a bit!

I’m adding these to my to-read list for next year, because it’s been a long time!  I remember reading The Hobbit in elementary school!
