I’m kind of a boring mom when it comes to technology.  When we pick out an app for my Kindle, it’s usually…

a) educational

and

b) free

Every once in a while, I do let them pick and choose something that leans more to the *fun* side (although I still try to steer it towards something educational)!  The My Dolphin Show app is one we recently downloaded that is more fun (although it does meet my free app criteria and my 9-year-old daughter insists she was “Learning to train and take care of the animals, Mom”.

I don’t know why I’m always amazed, but the girls can figure out these apps so easily.  I sat down to show my oldest daughter how to play, and…you guessed it–she had to teach me!  In fact, it took her just a few minutes to figure it out.  She had already finished a practice and was ready for a “show” before I figured out what was going on!

When asked, my 9-year-old daughter said her favorite part of the app was when she could do a show.  She liked that you can dress up your dolphin in lots of different costumes (I think you can also dress-up other creatures like sharks, mermaids, or polar bears)!  She also responded, “It was easy, but there were some challenging parts for girls my age.”

My favorite part is that the app doesn’t have advertising and is kid-friendly.  I find that most free apps often have in-app advertising and sometimes it isn’t appropriate. Also, the app has over 2 million installs already, so I feel pretty confident that it isn’t buggy.  All-in-all, I found the game to be fun and challenging for my girls.  The 9-year-old seemed to enjoy it the most…though the five-year-old is pretty tech savvy, too!
