Let’s have some magnetic fun today! Raid the craft closet, the office drawers and send your kids around the house in search of items small enough to put in a water bottle.
What You’ll Need to Make a Magnetic Play Bottle:
- An empty water bottle
- Small items (both magnetic and not magnetic)
- A large magnet. My kids have this one.
Have your kids fill the empty bottle with the items and take guesses on which are magnetic.
Close the bottle and begin to experiment. What do the items that are attracted to the magnet have in common? Using the magnet, can your kids drag an item around the bottle? Can the kids lift the whole bottle with the magnet and one of the larger items in the bottle?
My kids loved dragging an item across the ribs of the bottle. It made a great thumpity-bumpity sound!

Do your kids like to play with magnets?
