When I think of teaching my kids to cook, I don’t normally think of using a structured approach. Up to this point, I’ve just kind of included them in what I was doing…and they are able to make quite a few things in the kitchen!
To be honest though, over the past year or two, I haven’t been doing as good of a job getting everyone in the kitchen. We’ve added a few new extracurricular activities, a new-to-us house, and a new part-time job at my church, so spending time teaching kitchen skills has been on the back burner….
And that’s why I’m so excited about the Kids Cook Real Food eCourse! I had a chance to preview it and decided to make it the one main “learning” activity we are doing this summer. We’ll still keep up with some math…and tons of reading, of course, but I wanted to devote some time specifically to increasing the girls proficiency in the kitchen.
My mom is awesome, but I was so involved in high school sports and activities, that she didn’t make me do much cooking. In fact, I didn’t really learn to cook more than a few recipes until I was married. While my skills have improved over the years, I’ve never had any real cooking instruction other than when I YouTube something! I think that’s one of the reasons I’m so excited about this eCourse. It looks extremely thorough with skills like peeling & spreading, following a recipe, sharp knife skills, cracking eggs, sauteeing veggies, measuring, soaking, rolling dough, etc. It’s also quite structured (which is what I need at this point)!
We haven’t yet had time to start, but my daughters are super excited about the video instruction aspect of it. Each lesson is video-based and also includes printables, grocery shopping lists, recipes, and more. Truly, this is a much more thorough course than I expected. I’ve seen many, many eCourses and none have been this structured and this detailed.
You can choose to get all levels of the course – beginner, intermediate, and advanced with access for one year for one price or you can do the upgrade to have lifetime access, Facebook group access, and several bonuses. If you just want one level, that is available, too.
Honestly, you know that I’m pretty frugal, so I don’t usually recommend higher-priced items. However, when you consider the cost of cooking lessons–or even just lessons through your local rec or arts center (especially if you sign up multiple kids), this is a great value. Plus, I’ve often found when I invest in something, I actually use it–unlike many of the free downloads I still have on my computer!
Did I mention this is also real food cooking?!! That’s another one of my favorites about this course. We’ve tried to move away from processed foods (most of the time), so this fits with my own food philosophy pretty well: eat whole, minimally processed foods a majority of the time.
Anyway, this is an excellent eCourse, and it’s open for enrollment through June 6. Once you access the eCourse, you can move at your own pace, but it only open to purchase just a few times per year. You can find all the info about the Kids Cook Real Food eCourse here.
