I’m taking the day off to enjoy Thanksgiving with family, but I’ll be back later tonight and early tomorrow morning to start sharing deals with you! Be sure to check out the site through tonight and tomorrow — I’ll be posting like a crazy woman!!
Until then, here’s one of my favorite Thanksgiving memories:
When you look back at all the Thanksgivings you’ve celebrated, do you have one in particular that stands out in your mind? They all kind of jumble together for me — but one.
John and I were hosting my family in our tiny basement apartment this particular Thanksgiving. He was in vet school, and I was teaching, so we didn’t have much. But I was so excited to make my first real turkey and have my family visit. And I was also bursting at the seams to tell my parents…
We were expecting our first baby (and their first grandchild)! I had only found out the day before, and John wanted to wait…but I just couldn’t! I was so excited!
It was actually fairly uneventful. The dinner went well. I cooked and cooked and cooked!
After dinner, I asked my mom to pick a hand. I had hidden a pink baby sock in one hand and a blue sock in the other. I will never forget the look on my mom and dad’s faces as they put two and two together!
It is a memory I will always cherish.
Not long after that we were given the news that my dad had about 6 months to live. He only made it three months, so he never got to meet that precious little granddaughter he was so excited about. But I hold that memory so close to my heart — the look on his face and the joy in his heart.
And I’m grateful.
