I’ve shared several goal-planning resources with you over the past week. I hope you don’t mind me sharing a few of my goals with you. Nowadays, I like to read other people’s goals to give me ideas and inspire me.
The truth is that I used to read other’s goals and become discouraged! Now, I just realize we are all at different seasons and stages of our lives. Five years ago, there is no way I would’ve set these goals — it just wouldn’t have been feasible. There is grace for wherever you are and whatever you are going through in life!
Also, I would encourage you to take a retreat! If you haven’t yet made goals for the new year, take a few hours away to set some and reflect on your life. There’s no need to feel guilty about taking time away…if you struggle with that, check out this lovely post by Sally Clarkson. She’s such an encouragement!
Here are a few of my goals:
Spiritual:
Read through the Bible in a year with the [easyazon-link asin=”0736902392″]The Narrated Bible in Chronological Order (NIV)[/easyazon-link].
Grow in hospitality (by inviting others into our home regularly)
Explore adoption (this is also a personal goal, as well — they all kind of go together).
Financial:
Pay off our home mortgage as quickly as possible.
Save towards replacing John’s 30-year-old truck.
Try a 1-month cash-only challenge.
Fitness
Complete another 1/2 marathon
Complete [easyazon-link asin=”B002QZ1RS6″]INSANITY[/easyazon-link] and [easyazon-link asin=”B005PO7ABI”]P90X2[/easyazon-link].
Work-out 4-5 per week throughout the year.
Marriage
At least two date nights per month + 2 at-home date nights per month to save on babysitting costs.
Two overnight getaways together during the next year.
Mothering
Hold and cuddle each child daily. (I don’t come from a touchy-feely family, so I don’t gravitate to this naturally. And now that they are getting older, and we spend so much time doing school and other activities, I just don’t think about it!)
Apply principles from [easyazon-link asin=”0966378660″]Wise Words for Moms[/easyazon-link] and the book [easyazon-link asin=”0972304649″]Don’t Make Me Count to Three[/easyazon-link].
Take each girl on a mommy date (one per month).
Personal:
Read 12 non-fiction books + 5 fiction titles (list to come).
Write a workshop and present it at three churches.
Make home management, homeschool, and blogging binders. (Get ready! This is an upcoming 30-Day Challenge. I have a special treat for you, too. I’m so excited!!)
Continue to simplify my life. (We’ll start a 30-Day Challenge tomorrow!)
Blogging:
Become better at planning ahead. Make a yearly, monthly, and weekly plan.
Put tighter limits around blogging and non-blogging time to prevent burn-out and give enough of myself to my little ones.
Redesign and combine Motherhood on a Dime and The Amazing Mess. (Don’t worry! I’ve been working on a plan to *hopefully* make the transition super-easy!)
What are some of your goals?
Let me just say that I find your blog sooooo inspiring. I’m a Christian mom, too! And, I especially love where you remark, “There is grace for wherever you are and whatever you are going through in life!” I need to remember this. I have so many goals; I tried to put all of them in writing the other night, and found that I just kept going, and going, and going. I need to take baby steps. I love how you have goals for every part of your life. I’m going to try thinking of my goals that way. In addition to several goals I have similar to yours, I have also decided to try to do more of the three Rs…reduce, repurpose, recycle. This will help when we go to move in to our new home to be built this year. Less stuff to pack and unpack!
Thanks so much, Shannon! You don’t know how much I appreciate your encouragement! 🙂
Definitely give yourself grace. I think it’s so easy to see the goals everyone else is posting and feel overwhelmed! You don’t have to do it all — and you shouldn’t!!
I like your 3Rs — that’s a great idea to think about when simplifying!
fantastic goals!! i’m anxious to see where the Lord leads you in regards to adoption. Regarding you combining the 2 blogs…I’m anxious to see how you do that. very good idea!
I’m interested to see how it all works out! I got your email, btw…I’ll respond soon! 🙂
yea for saving for a new truck for John! 🙂 that made me laugh–30 years old!!
Ha…it’s sad! Did you know that when he goes to the clinic because he gets called in at night, the police have run his tag number several times. I guess it’s a suspicious looking truck! 🙂
