Many of you who have been following my blog for a while know that I’m always trying to eat healthier and exercise regularly. One of the ways I do this is with my 30-Day Challenges (you can see my latest one here). One of the changes I’ve made during the past month is to eat more protein and cut-out grains for a few weeks.
It’s been a little challenging, but I’ve felt so much better. I’m eating a wide variety of healthy foods, but one I’m eating a ton of is….
Yogurt!
My youngest daughters and I love Greek yogurt, and I’m finding it to be a daily staple now.
I know that with summer here, many of you are trying to make some changes like I have and eat healthier. One place you can find some great advice is over at Dannon Oikos. They are featuring exclusive tips from nationally-recognized dietician, Keri Glassman (author of the Slim, Calm, Sexy Diet), as part of their Grab a Spoon ’til June campaign this summer.
Here are a few tips Keri shares for “shaking up” your summer routine:
– Every Meal Is A “Monday Morning”.
Focus on eating better, one meal at a time. Otherwise it can be easy to get discouraged – forget the worry! Your only mission: Make the next meal you eat nutritious, balanced and satisfying.
– Don’t Eat Around A Craving.
Honor your craving with a conscious indulgence – take a few deep breaths and find a healthy alternative! Try satisfying your sweet tooth with Dannon Oikos® Greek nonfat yogurt, it is nutritious but still has an incredible taste.
– No-Excuses Exercise.
Sometimes the biggest barrier to working out is just getting there so a good option can be to make it as easy as possible—throw in a workout DVD or even going for a walk takes away excuses and gets you moving!
– Satisfying Proteins.
A moderate-protein balanced diet with a reasonable amount of fiber, carbohydrates and the appropriate amount of healthy fats is the best way to maintain a healthy weight. Dairy is a great source of protein, try a creamy Greek nonfat yogurt like Dannon Oikos®–it has twice the protein of regular lowfat yogurt2.
2 Oikos Greek Nonfat yogurt: 12 -14g Protein (24%DV), Regular lowfat yogurt: 5g protein (10%DV) per 5.3oz.
My favorite is the Monday morning tip. Before I started the challenge three weeks ago, I just kept telling myself, “I’ll start this new eating plan on Monday.” Lots of Mondays rolled around before I actually did it. It’s so much better to start each day thinking about how to make healthy choices and feel great today….instead of making poor food choices and feeling lethargic, grumpy, and bad all day! When I mess up, I just focus on making the next meal healthier.
If you want to find more of these kind of tips and advice, you can follow Keri’s tips and Dannon Oikos via Twitter and Facebook!
Of course, I can’t post about something without sharing a money-saving idea! You can find a 50¢ coupon over on the OikosYogurt.com site in addition to the Grab A Spoon campaign!
