I was looking through my “Book Basket” category and realized I haven’t shared many of the books we love at all! I’m trying to make this a year filled with read alouds, so I’ll be sharing more of what we’re reading and what we’re loving!
These are some of my favorite winter picture books:
The Mitten by Jan Brett
We love the adventures of the animals in all kinds of Jan Brett stories!
The Big Snow by Berta and Elmer Hader
I’m always on the look-out for Caldecott award-winning books. This one is beautiful.
The Snowy Day: 50th Anniversary Edition
Classic!
Snow by Uri Shulevitz
I think I probably enjoy this one more than the girls, but again, it has lovely illustrations.
Snow (Sunburst Books) by Cynthia Rylant
I love most everything by Cynthia Rylant, and this has great reviews.
It’s Snowing! It’s Snowing!: Winter Poems (I Can Read Book 3) by Jack Prelutsky
Just a fun little book of poems about winter!
Owl Moon by Jane Yolen
A sweet book about a little girl and her dad going on a hunt for owls.
Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin
This is the story of Wilson Bentley, a photographer with a passion for studying snowflakes. You’ll probably want to see some books of his photographs once you’ve read it!
Sneezy the Snowman by Maureen Wright
I love this book, and it has just enough repetitive text to allow your child to “read” it with you!
The Snowman by Raymond Briggs
This is a wordless book, but the girls enjoy it. It’s fun to have them narrate the story, too.
Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner
A lovely little book with animals that are found “over” and “under” the snow.
Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson
This highly-rated board book is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers!
Do you have any favorite “winter” picture books that your children love?
