I don’t know if you are like me or not, but I’m in the middle of planning for next school year! We have just one more week of our curriculum, so I started pulling out some of the curriculum we’ll be using next fall.
My oldest daughter (she’s 7) is so excited about it, she asked me when we’re going to get started. Then she said, “Well, what if we start now and then we can take a really long summer break next year?”
I just thought it was so encouraging to have her so excited about learning, she wants to start NOW! It made all the struggles of homeschooling worth it!
Anyway, as I’ve been looking through the resources we have, I thought it would be fun to share about our homeschool and some of our favorite educational resources. Here are a few of the areas I’ll be sharing about:
- Why We Homeschool
- How to Get Started Homeschooling
- Why I’m Excited about the New School Year
- A Day in Our (Homeschool) Life (will cover in August)
- Organizing our Homeschool “Classroom”
- Our 2102-2013 Curriculum Choices
- My Favorite Homeschool and Educational Websites
- Favorite Art Books for Kids
- Favorite books to read aloud to kids
- Favorite Picture Books
- Must-Haves for Preschool at Home
- Music Resources for Preschoolers and Early Elementary
- Reading, Writing, and Math Favorites
- Christian Resources for Kids
- Our Favorite Preschool Books and Games
- Infant and Toddler Educational Resources
- 101 Days of Summer Fun for Kids
The topics may change or I may add some depending on the level of interest. I know right now is the time when many families are exploring educational options for next year! Not all of the posts are specifically for homeschool (hopefully, they’ll be great resources for everyone no matter what educational path you’ve deemed best for your family), but I have gotten quite a few questions about homeschooling recently — and I wanted to be sure I answered those. If there is something I’m missing that you would like to know about, please send me an email or comment below!

I’m so glad you are writing about homeschooling. I have done a bit of research, but it will be so much easier to know what you have done. Looking forward to reading it!!

Thank you so much for your artical. “5 reasons why we homeschool”
I am just starting out, my daughter was to start public school this coming Fall 2012.
I planned to home school when they were older but like you my worries started getting stronger
right after my daughter was born and when she started pre-school last year it got a lot worse.
I love my daughters pre-school, they are chrisitian and great with the kids but even that was not good enought for my little angels. like you said they are my greatest gift from God and I was very upset when my oldest came home writing with her right hand after 5 years of always using her right.
Her father, Uncle and gransdmother are all leftys and so when she started coloring we always held the color or pencil in the middle and allowed her to choose. we taught her both ways to hold it.
When I took her back to school the next week I warned the teacher and manager that she was a Lefty and they told me that children are not set on one hand until they are between 8 and 10.
then about half way thru the year my daughter threw a huge fit one morning when I tried to put her shoes one. I asked why and she said “Ms Cathy said tied shoes only”
so I tied her tennie shoes on her and went to school….walked in and explain”good girl for doing what we told you”
I almost flipped my lid. really you are telling my daughter it is ok to throw a fit and dis obey me when ever you tell her to. later that day I was re thinking when to start homeschool (had been 3rd grade before this) and as I was driving I heard the song on the radio by Mandesa called “waiting for tomorrow”
it is about the fact that we are only promissed today and we can not put off until tomorrow because we might not have it. I felt that God had seen fit to tell me thru this song that I should not put off what I knew was right, I needed to home school my girls now and understand that I will not always have as long as I might want with them.
Again thank you so much, another mom sent me your blog and I plan to keep reading whatever you post. the best support I have is knowing that there are others out there dealing with the same issues.
I hope that your days with your girls are great ones (even the frustrating ones! we have all been there!)
God Bless you and your family. Keep up the work of the Lord, We all need it.
